The Engineering Council UK (ECUK) has won the contract to run the Chartered Scientist Register.

The Engineering Council UK (ECUK) has won the contract to run the Chartered Scientist Register.

The ECUK has been a firm supporter of the Science Council's bid for a Royal Charter and for the right to grant the Chartered Scientist title.

In awarding the contract to ECUK the Science Council has strengthened close links between the two organisations.

Making the approach to registration comparable between the two organisations will further assist, emphasising the wide choice of careers for scientists, and this should encourage greater confidence by employers in the skills being offered whether science graduates remain in pure science or migrate, as many do, into engineering.

ECUK Executive Director Andrew Ramsay said: "We are delighted to have gained the work.

The new register takes advantage of the great experience we have gained over the last quarter of a century of running the Engineering Council register".

The Science Council Chief Executive, Dr Sarah Ball said: "The Science Council has appreciated the support of ECUK and very much welcomes the closer link between our two organisations as we work together to maintain high standards in science, mathematics and engineering".
