This was the first time in five years that the Energy Industries Council has dipped a toe into the Chinese market, by organising a UK group at the first Petro-Chem Expo China exhibition.
Loong Say Meng and Karen Szeto from the EIC Singapore Office travelled out to Beijing and the feedback received from the seven exhibitors has been very positive.
Through using the show organisers' appointed stand contractor, costs were kept down so giving a 9m2 stand a fantastic low cost of GBP 1720 (net of the UK Trade and Investment grant).
Matthew Tigwell from Heatric commented: "A good level of attendance from all departments, such as engineering, maintenance etc, has allowed us to make a positive first step into the marketplace".
Steven Smith From Monitor Management said that as his company's "first endeavour into China, we have learnt a lot about the local market, the attitudes and the best approach we might need to take to do business here".
David O'Brien from CMP Products noted that there was "strong interest from client/operators, engineering companies and consultants, fabricators and package vendors who expressed keen interest in UK manufactured product and technologies".
Lastly, Ian Littlewood from Hedley Purvis wrote: "I have been overwhelmed by the attendance of key Chinese business people and we have had all our expectations surpassed, identifying many prospective partners/distributors".
The Energy Industries Council has been appointed as sponsor of the UK group at AchemAsia in Beijing from 11th to 15th May 2004.
UK Trade and Investment grants are available of up to 50% of the cost of space and stand construction, up to a maximum of GBP 2500.
AchemAsia is the leading event in the world calendar for chemical engineering, environmental protection and biotechnology.
Exhibiting at AchemAsia provides UK companies with an opportunity to explore trends in China's process industry and identify technological demands and to meet the sectors' key Chinese companies under one roof while at the same time introducing their own products and services to potential customers and co-operation partners.
