ISO 14001 accreditation for London Securities

An EHS Projects product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 11, 2004

EHS Projects has helped a fire manufacturing and service company become one of the first companies in the UK's fire protection industry to gain ISO 14001 accreditation.

A fire manufacturing and service company that has developed a revolutionary new eco-friendly fire extinguisher has expanded its own environmental credentials after becoming one of the first companies in the UK's fire protection industry to gain ISO 14001 accreditation.

London Securities believes that its positioning in the industry will see business increase over the next couple of months as more and more UK companies place greater emphasis on the environmental credentials of their suppliers.

Over the last ten months, London Securities has worked with EHS, one of the UK's leading environmental health and safety specialist service providers, to achieve ISO 14001.

Previously, only one of London Securities' six UK companies had this accreditation.

EHS created a group environmental action plan, which included drafting an environmental manual and support package.

Specific improvements include: all service and sales personnel can now provide environmental guidance and information to customers on their product range (this means customers can make a more informed choice on their supplied products and services); service operations are regulated under strict pollution prevention and waste management criteria to protect customer sites; customers can now also benefit from assistance with integrating environmental considerations into their fire prevention measures as part of the improved service; and all manufacturing sites and associated operations have environmental controls which can demonstrate compliance with the law, prevention of pollution and continual improvement.

Quintin Campbell, sales director at London Securities, comments: "London Securities and its sister companies are committed to protecting the environment and continually strive to attain a high satisfactory balance between environmental, social and economic responsibilities.

"Through working with EHS we have been able to improve on our customer care and operational performance by implementing a number of key initiatives which have given us a unique positioning in the industry.

"From a commercial point of view this is excellent news and we expect business to benefit as a result".

Andrew Taylor, operations manager at EHS Projects, comments: "Effective emergency preparedness and response is critical to performance of any organisation, saving lives, resources and jobs.

"It is therefore only right that companies should turn their attention on the suppliers of these services and equipment, to ensure they measure up to the task.

"London Securities can now set themselves ahead of their competitors and provide a service second to none.

"IS014001 is the most widely used international environmental standard and therefore the most recognised benchmark.

"In a competitive market, this accreditation is critical to the success of organisations such as London Securities who need to demonstrate their environmental performance to customers and also differentiate themselves from others in the industry".

London Securities has a considerable share of the UK's fire protection market through companies such as Nu-Swift International, GFA Premiere, Asco, Hoyles and LW Safety.

It manufactures over 3500 fire extinguishers every month.

The company's UK sites are based in London, Glasgow, Halifax and St Helens.
