Composite plates provide superior performance
Rigorous laboratory tests and extensive in-production evaluations have shown that Engis Series HY lapping plates provide superior performance in four key areas.
Rigorous laboratory tests and extensive in-production evaluations have shown that Engis Series HY lapping plates provide superior performance in the four key areas of accelerated stock removal, consistent repeatable results, ultraprecise flatness and surface finish, when compared to plates of other materials.
Lapping plates are central to the efficient performance of integrated diamond lapping systems, and Engis Series HY lapping plates have been formulated to deliver optimum performance when used with Hyprez diamond slurries in both large volume operations and smaller hand-lapping and polishing applications.
These special composite plates, made with a unique blend of powdered metal or ceramic combined in a resin system, provide two benefits: first, the special formulation of powders and resins enables the plates to take a more uniform charge of diamond, giving more consistent and controlled performance; secondly, composite plates provide superior performance in applications where lapping and polishing are combined in one step.
Composite lapping plates are particularly suitable for finishing two or more dissimilar materials to a uniform plane of flatness.
Engis process engineers, who have extensive expertise in this field, work with clients to establish the optimum combination of plates, slurries and lubricants for finishing each multi-material component.
Plates available range from the HY X08, for aggressive stock removal, frequently used as an alternative to a cast iron plate, to the HY TX10 for fine stock removal, often used in place of polishing pads.
Plates are offered with a variety of different groove patterns and in several standard sizes with non-standard sizes available on request.
