Guardmaster's new, heavy duty Sipha GD2 brings the unique reliability and life benefits of non-contact safety interlocking to machines in harsh environments, where mechanical switches could give problems The Sipha GD2 is the latest addition to Guardmaster's Sipha family of magnetically coded safety switches

These offer performance that is equivalent to, or better than, most mechanical safety interlocks.

They provide a unique mix of non-contact reliability, unmatched protection against defeat by tampering and fail safe operation.

The Sipha GD2 is the most robust safety switch in the Sipha range.

Designed for operation in difficult and heavy duty environments, it is equipped with a stainless steel case to provide high levels of reliability and prolong its life.

The combination of the stainless steel case and Sipha-GD2's IP68 rating means that the switches are ideal for use in wet and dusty conditions, in hygiene conscious environments such as food and pharmaceuticals, and also in "clean environments" such as semiconductors.

Sipha GD2 combines its operating integrity and robustness with a high degree of "usability".

The safety switch optimises production time via a 6 way quick disconnect connector option which enables it to be installed quickly and easily.

In operation too, Sipha GD2's superior 10mm switching distance minimises lost production time due to nuisance tripping.

The flexibility of switching operation also enables Sipha GD2 to accept misalignment of its actuator and sensor.

This enables the user to make allowance for guards which become out of line as a result of wear.

Sipha GD2 is part of a complete safety interlock system which also includes a control unit and sensors.

The significance of the control unit is twofold.

Firstly, it has an additional safety output that enables Sipha to be used in higher risk applications where dual channel safety monitoring is required.

Secondly, it has the unique facility to work from any input voltage.

This gives unmatched flexibility to machine builders, who can, for example, upgrade machines with higher voltage control systems simply and cost effectively.

The range of sensors for use with Sipha GD2 includes S12 and S22 types with auxiliary monitoring contacts.

The fully coded S12 and S22 Sipha sensors are believed to be the smallest of their type to have on-board auxiliary monitoring contacts.

The major benefit of this facility to users is on machines which have multiple guard doors.

The auxiliary contacts can be wired back to a PLC control system, or to individual indicators to provide notification of when a guard door is not in the properly closed condition.

Sipha GD2 is available with 3 sets of contacts.

It operates within the temperature range of -25oC to 125oC and conforms to EN 1088, EN 60204-1, 60947-5-3, EN 954 category 3 and VDE 0660 part 209.

Sipha GD-2 is also holds both UL and BG approvals.
