Eckold designs and manufactures gas springs to suit a wide range of application requirements, providing cost effective and reliable engineering solutions Gas springs may pass unnoticed by many, but they are, in fact, heavily used in countless markets such as automotive, agriculture, construction, leisure and medical as well as for more specific items that include furniture, awnings, compressors and a vast array of machinery applications

The popularity of gas springs is based on their design, which features a closed, maintenance-free storage of energy, always available on demand.

For marine or other environments where harsh conditions prevail, Eckold also offer a range manufactured completely from stainless steel.

The advantages of gas springs are numerous - they offer a much higher force in a smaller package than coil springs and on compression they do not spring back - the extension rate can be controlled to provide a smooth return action.

Eckold offers many different varieties of gas springs, all of which feature zinc-plated fittings to ensure that the working life of the product is maximised.

Variants range from 10N to 10kN in terms of nominal force.

Cylinder diameters range from 10 up to 65mm, with piston diameters from 3 to 30mm.

Stroke lengths between 10 and 1000mm can be accommodated, and a wide range of end fittings is available to ensure easy installation.

Double cylinder gas springs are also available, incorporating different gas pressures to provide a graduated activating force, particularly suited to heavy flaps with large opening angles.

Eckold also supplies locking gas springs, which are controlled by means of a release valve, enabling the piston to be locked at any position along the stroke.

This is particularly useful for applications in the furniture industry such as reclining-back chairs, beds, medical chairs and foot rests.

The Eckold range of gas springs also has the ability to control piston extension speed.

Nominal forces in this series range up to 1200N.

A comprehensive range of tension gas springs is also available, which provide controlled movement in the opposite direction to the conventional gas springs.

Cylinder sizes vary from 19 to 40mm and nominal forces from 330 to 5000N.

Dampers are also available to customers seeking speed reduction in abruptly applied load situations.

Typically speeds of 200mm/s can be successfully reduced to 10mm/s.

Applications include adjustable height desks and production tables.

An extensive range of mounting brackets is also available.
