Elesa provides security for hydraulic
development

There is a developmental trend for industrial and offroad machinery, whether mobile or otherwise, to employ a hydraulic system for exerting power.

There is a developmental trend for industrial and offroad machinery, whether mobile or otherwise, to employ a hydraulic system for exerting power This is why high power hydraulics have been a focus for Elesa over many years

The firm provides accessories for hydraulic based equipment from dump trucks and road laying machines to tractors, telehandlers and forestry or military vehicles.

These all operate in extreme conditions of various types, are vulnerable to outside interference and are prone to damage from daily operation and vandalism.

Elesa's development focus has therefore been on security accessories aimed at preventing leakage or damage to the hydraulic system.

These safety and performance critical components cover areas of personnel and equipment safety, while seeking to reduce the likelihood of damage and simplifying maintenance.

Such components generally come into four main areas: vandal proof caps - keep dirt out; pressure relieving caps - keep fluid in; magnetic plugs - keep fluid clean of metallic particles; and fluid level monitoring and alarms - advise adequate fluid levels.

Development technicians at Elesa's corporate laboratories work with relevant EU legislation, which covers EN, ISO, health and safety requirements, and the Machinery Directive on CE marking.

The firm uses a process of virtual product development originating in CAD and moving on to CIM.

This work has addressed the problem of damage to sight glasses on tanks and led to a shrouded version and an electronic version, which allows the gauge to be hidden from view yet give a clear readout to the operator in the cab.

As well as visual readout of oil level, the HCX/E column level indicator has AC and DC electronic signal generation when the oil level drops too low.

Fluid tank security can present difficult problems where conflicts between security and performance require attention - for example the SFW/VP is a development of Elesa's SFW series of filler and breather caps, with overpressure vent and vacuum breaker to prevent under-pressure tank collapse in the event of sudden drainage.

The vandal protection design incorporates a locking key that may be kept with vehicle ignition keys.

TVD series breather caps address the problems of venting toxic chemical reservoirs and tanks, especially during transit when there is risk of overturning and spillage.

They incorporate a vacuum breaker valve threaded to suit a standard 70mm inlet and ensure a complete seal in the event of overturning.

Oil level indicators allow rapid condition checks for level and temperature from 0 to 100C and column level indicators give volume indications or maximum and minimum readings.

For high pressure reservoirs there is the HGFT oil level window capable of withstanding up to 3bar.

The HGFT.HT.PR will withstand 140C and up to 7bar tank pressure. Request a free brochure from Elesa (UK) ...
