Turnkey CompactPCI chassis service cuts costs

An Elma Electronic UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 30, 2001

Elma's turnkey CompactPCI chassis service has over 4,000 standard configurations across a wide range of sizes, backplane configurations, power supplies, fan systems, and disk mounting options

Elma UK has launched a turnkey CompactPCI chassis service to cut delivery times and costs on complete CPCI systems.

The approach is based on highly configurable standard parts backed up by in-depth technical support.

With over 4,000 standard configurations across a wide range of sizes, backplane configurations, power supplies, fan systems, and disk mounting options, the Elma CompactPCI system is flexible enough to meet most requirements.

The range includes rackmount, desktop and portable tower formats, redundant and hot-swappable power supply options, and a wide range of inputs including universal 90-230V AC and 48V DC.

An Elma custom configured system enables project requirements to be matched, without the compromises of a standard solution, or the cost and delivery penalty of a special design.

The range includes full support for PICMG 2.1 R3.0 Hot-Swap, as well as H.110 telephony applications, and is available with either 3.3V or 5V I/O.

All models utilise an 8-layer stripline backplane, which has been computer optimised to reduce clock skew and minimise crosstalk.

The backplane also includes LF and HF decoupling, together with advanced power and ground distribution and high current power and ground planes, contributing to the excellent EMC performance of the system.

To fit the widest possible range of applications, the CompactPCI packaging systems are available in desktop, rackmount or portable tower styles, with a range of finishes including galvanised steel, and vinyl clad or powder coated aluminium.

For example, Type 11C systems offer a cost-effective solution for industrial and commercial applications, while Type 15C delivers premium quality aesthetics for demanding applications.

Cooling airflow can be either front to back or bottom to top on most designs, with optional system monitoring of cooling and power supply performance.

Standard sizes range from 4U to 10U, with horizontal or vertical board orientation, and are available with a wide variety of backplane population options, both with and without rear I/O.

A comprehensive range of handles, hot-swap handles, card guides, coding pins and ESD clips is also available to ensure that only CompactPCI plug-in cards are needed to produce a complete system.

The UL and CE compliant systems are supported by an online configurator at www.elma.com, which enable designers to establish the right options for their application, and ensure the smoothest possible integration with the system boards.
