A novel subsystem from Elma UK combines a monitor, keyboard and five-way keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) switch in only 1U of panel space, providing system builders with a compact solution for controlling up to five PCs The new unit combines a 15.1in high-brightness VGA screen, full keyboard, touchpad and stereo speakers, with a full-function five-way KVM switch, enabling the control of multiple computer systems in half the space of some alternative systems

The system is ideal for system administration and maintenance functions within industrial control, networking, server and other multicomputer applications.

The rugged sheet-steel construction is designed for secure mounting in a standard 19in rack, and enables the keyboard/touchpad and 200cd/m LCD screen to extend smoothly for operation or be concealed behind the space-saving 44mm (1U) panel height.

Despite the compact size of the 600mm deep unit, it offers support for 36bit colour at 1024 x 768 resolution, together with 100MHz video bandwidth, and built-in stereo speakers.

In addition, the universal mains input is rated from 90 to 264V, and optional keyboard languages are available in addition to the standard UK layout, making the system suitable for both domestic and export applications.

With ratings including an operating temperature range of 0-50C, 10-95% relative humidity at 40C and MTBF of 50kh at 25C, the subsystem is suitable for a wide range of commercial and industrial requirements including high-availability systems such as rack-mounted servers.
