Speedy sorting and grading

An Elscint Automation product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 20, 2002

The Elscint sorting and grading unit is designed to feed, sort and grade components with cylindrical and spherical geometries.

The Elscint sorting and grading unit is designed to feed, sort and grade components having cylindrical and spherical geometry like balls, rollers, needle rollers, gems etc operating at a rate in excess of 150part/min, depending on the size of the components.

The system uses Elscint vibratory bowl feeders to feed the parts to a set of powered gauge rolls.

The inclination of the rolls, plus adjustable roll spacing from one end to the other enables parts to move/travel easily and rapidly into the desired position, while moving them to the discharge point.

Undersized parts are first separated, followed by those within tolerance.

Oversize and damaged parts continue to the end of the rolls and are discharged into a separate container.

An important feature is that as the rolls are counter-rotating they will not bind or grip the parts and are extremely sensitive to fine tolerances.

By increasing the rotational speed of the rolls more accuracy can be achieved.

The unit also comes with a sensor, a control panel and a variable speed AC or DC motor fitted with an Elscint reduction unit.
