Everything you ever wanted to know about EMC

An EMC Industry Association product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 6, 2004

A new free CD-ROM is billed as covering everything you ever wanted to know about electromagnetic compatibility.

The "EMC and compliance CD ROM information bank" contains a complete text of relevant directives together with lists of appropriate standards, all easily downloadable, plus a directory of companies involved in EMC, a product finder and many interesting articles.

The EMCIA is the UK trade association for companies involved in EMC.

Formed in March 2002, and comprising 34 members, the association is also an "accredited trade organisation" with UK Trade and Investment, which provides financial support for companies exhibiting overseas.

The information bank contains many articles covering topics such as design techniques for EMC, EMC for systems and installations and EMC testing.

The authors include well-respected independent industry specialists, Keith Armstrong, Tim Williams and John Woodgate, plus there is a huge resource of other articles written by specialist EMC companies.

18 separate directives - including the EMC Directive, RoHS and WEEE Directives and Product Liability Directive - are available free, as are 14 full standards documents, such as the Low Voltage Harmonised Standards, Medical Device Harmonised Standards and a useful introduction to standards in general from the BSI.

Details of 149 companies are included in the companies index, crossreferenced to over 100 product categories.

Comments Alan Hutley, EMCIA Secretariat: "We have decided to make this invaluable resource freely available to EMC designers across Europe".

"It will also be distributed at the upcoming EMC UK 2004 exhibition and conference, at Newbury Racecourse on 12th and 13th October 2004".

Full details of the exhibition can be found on the EMCIA website.

Copies of the CD can be obtained by logging onto www.compliance-club.com.
