Novel conductive microspheres excite US interest

A Microsphere Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 26, 2008

Metal-coated microspheres answer demands of electromagnetic shielding, conductive coatings and associated markets.

Microsphere Technology has extended its range of Conductospheres in response to demand from the US market.

This follows from the recently announced partnership with Sphere Services and Epoch Technical Services for supply of silver-coated spheres to the electromagnetic shielding, conductive coatings and associated markets in North America.

Seven new products have been launched based on both microspheres and cenospheres to cover a range of sizes and densities.

The new products X-10, B-55, B-55-GT, B-55-LX, M-18, M-30 and L- 60 are now all available and details can be downloaded from the Microsphere Technology website.

Dr David Nichols, Senior Scientist at Microsphere Technology, commented: "This range of products has been developed using our unique knowhow for coating silver onto particulates".

"We apply silver coatings to a broad range of substrates - hollow glass, solid glass, cenospheres and Sphere Services' unique Bionic Bubble and X-10 products".

"We can also custom design coated spheres for individual customer requirements".

Tracy Wandell, President of Sphere Services, said: "I have now held a series of significant meetings with key players across the US, who have been shown samples of the materials and response to the new products has been exceedingly positive".

"We are now engaged in significant on-going evaluation programmes on some important projects".

Ed Mills, Chairman of Epoch Technical Services, said: "We are pleased with these developments".

"Not only do the products have excellent performance - they also provide our clients with security of supply, being manufactured using raw materials which are consistently available to a constant and high quality level".

John Bamforth, Director Microsphere Technology, added: "In addition to the excellent response we have had to our new silver-coated products, we have also received considerable interest for our other metal-coated products - particularly nickel and copper".

"We are now also actively working on expanding our range of these metal coated spheres to respond to this demand".
