Mass flowmeter extends plant control system

An Emerson Process Management product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 17, 2006

Transmitter with Foundation Fieldbus communications technology and compensated mass flow functionality adds to intelligent field device functionality of digital plant architecture.

Emerson Process Management has introduced the Rosemount 3095 Multivariable transmitter with Foundation Fieldbus communications technology and compensated mass flow functionality.

The mass flowmeter is an extension to the Rosemount 3095 platform, and an addition to the intelligent field device functionality of Emerson Plantweb digital plant architecture.

The Rosemount 3095 mass flowmeter delivers four measurements from one device - pressure, differential pressure, temperature and the derived fully compensated mass flow.

A single Multivariable mass flowmeter installation reduces multiple process penetrations, inventory and installation costs.

The Rosemount 3095 provides compensated mass flow, reducing all sources of traditional DP flow uncertainty.

The mass flow function block in the 3095 applies measured pressure and temperature to perform real-time flow compensation for all flow variables that could contribute to flow errors, including density, discharge coefficient, gas expansion factor, bore of differential producer and velocity approach.

Reduced flow errors mean reduced process variability and improved product quality.

The comprehensive suite of Foundation Fieldbus function blocks helps power Plantweb to improve plant efficiency by 2% and more.

Users can eliminate the costs associated with complex programming by using the mass flow block to calculate fully compensated mass flow, and totalise in the field with the integrator block.

Fieldbus function blocks supported by the Rosemount 3095 include fully compensated mass flow, analogue input, analogue output, auto-tune PID, input selector, signal characteriser, arithmetic, integrator, control selector, output splitter and LCD.
