Radar-based level gauging improves on ultrasonics

To prevent ecological problems and to have automatic control of the process, GDF in the Czech Republic has chosen radar-based level gauging.

This is the most reliable measuring method when preventing overfill of the company's sewage water well.

GDF has previously tried many different types of ultrasonic gauges with poor results.

Foam, humidity and temperatures below the freezing point makes the level measurement difficult.

Having no reliable level control could cause overfill of the sewage water well and discharge of dirty water into the river nearby.

Since December 1999 the radar level gauge Saab LoopRadar reliably controls the movement of dirty water in the plant via valves.

Since the level gauge works so reliably, the customer has no supervision costs.

Saab LoopRadar controls the entire process automatically.

The installation is made on an open underground concrete well at the outlet of the sewage plant containing dirty water.

The well is 6 m (19.7 ft) high and the Saab LoopRadar gauge with a cone antenna is mounted on an arm over a 1.2x1.2 m (3.9x3.9 ft) opening to measure the level.

The gauge is mounted on a support arm in the middle of the well opening.

The analog output signal is sent to a PC and an automatic system for readout and control.
