New brushless DC motors in sub-40W category

Two new Japan Servo ranges from EMS include the FYD series which offer low vibration and noise, and the FHD series, which offer high power to volume

In order to maintain its tradition of offering products from the world's finest manufacturers, Aldermaston based Electro Mechanical Systems now include the Servex FHD and FYD series brushless DC motors from Japan Servo.

The new product introductions follow the recently signing of a UK distributor agreement for Japan Servo Co Limited who manufacture a comprehensive range of 2 and 3-phase hybrid stepper motors and brushless DC motors.

With Japan Servo products falling into the sub-40 watt power range, they complement EMS' existing small motor range perfectly.

The FYD series offer low vibration and noise, having a magnetic circuit designed to minimise cogging.

Speed is linear over the range 200 to 2500rpm, with starting torque of up to 196mNm depending on the frame size.

The motor has a 30 pulse per revolution output to allow for speed and position control, and another output to detect the direction of rotation.

The FHD series offer high power to volume, with up to 40 watts from the 61mm diameter version.

Speed control is linear over the range 200 to 2500rpm.

The motor has a 42 pulse per revolution output to allow for speed and position control, and another output to detect the direction of rotation.

Speed control is achieved by a choice of controllers depending on the power and speed range.

In addition to speed and direction outputs, the controllers offer an overload protection alarm and electro dynamic braking to slow motor motion extremely rapidly.

Both types are available with a range of gearheads to offer lower speeds and higher torques.

Reduction ratios range from 3 to 1800:1, depending on the gearhead selected.

The FHD and FYD series would typically be found in office automation equipment where long life and low noise are required.

The FYD is particularly suited to replacing induction motors where the designer would prefer a DC option.
