A new high power ironless rotor DC motor uses a neodymium magnet to achieve truly stunning power to volume and power to weight ratios.

Electro Mechanical Systems (EMS) is launching a new high power ironless rotor DC motor.

Although there are already 22mm-diameter motors within the Faulhaber range sold by EMS, this is the second to use a neodymium magnet to achieve truly stunning power to volume and power to weight ratios.

The best so far offered up to 4.5W, yet this new model offers up to 11W, depending on which of the six available winding options is selected.

At 32mm long it is only the second longest in the range, yet has performance advantages over the others that would be the dream of racing car and fighter aircraft designers.

With a mechanical time constant of just 6ms, it reaches 4500rev/min at no-load in that short time.

To put that in perspective, the surface speed of the coil inside the motor relative to the body reaches 15km/h in 6ms, an acceleration of 2500km/h per second - and not an aerodynamicist in sight.

The motor is very much aimed at high performance small devices, which would typically be battery powered.

The efficiency and reliability of the motor is assured by the use of the Faulhaber system of construction, the use of high quality materials and exacting quality standards.
