Sound and vibration measurement specialist, Bruel and Kjaer now offers the new Sony SIR-1000 series of high-speed digital data recorders, the world's first to use advanced intelligent tape technology

Sound and vibration measurement specialist, Bruel and Kjaer now offers the new Sony SIR-1000 series of high-speed digital data recorders, the world's first to use advanced intelligent tape technology (AIT) Designed for a wide range of measurement applications, the SIR-1000 series features the SIR-1000i model capable of recording 16 channels of analogue data to 20kHz, and the SIR-1000W unit with the capability of recording wide band analogue and digital signals

All SIR-1000 series recorders offer the unique ability of simultaneously recording measurement data and a video signal.

Using Sony's high-density magnetic recording technology, AIT provides a non-compressed storage capacity of 25GB per cartridge and a data transfer rate of up to 24Mbps.

Capable of recording DC to 20kHz for 16 or 32 channels, the standard model SIR-1000 can be expanded up to 128 channels while the SIR-1000W unit offers four channels up to 160kHz, eight channels up to 80kHz or 16 channels up to 40kHz.

All SIR-1000 recorders are equipped with independent AD/DA converters with 16bit linear quantisation and 64 time over sampling digital filters per channel.

Together with SCSI-2 high-speed data transfer, these features make the recorders ideal as a high performance front end.

In addition, data recorded on the SIR-1000 series can be played back on an AIT streamer drive, meaning that the SIR-1000 does not need to be tied up during data download operations.

Additional features include variable tape speed to allow from 2 to 32 hours of continuous recording and MPEG2 video recording with slow/fast replay and still picture facilities.

The SIR-1000 series recorders measure only 340 x 115 x 260mm and operate from either a 220/240V AC mains or external 12V DC power source.

A large capacity lithium-ion battery pack is available as an option and can be mounted on the data recorder for convenient use outdoors.

SIR-1000 recorders are highly resistant to shock and vibration and can perform normal recording even when exposed to vibrations of +/-14.7m/s2 (+/-1.5g), 6 to 200Hz.

For harsher applications, there is a shock mount adaptor that can absorb shocks of up to +/-98.1m/s2 (+/-10g), 74 to 2000Hz to ensure reliable recording.

All SIR-1000 recorders feature two slots on the back panel that can be used with optional boards including the SBS-10A/10S serial boards for maximum 24Mbps input and output of digital data, the STB-10/30 SCSI interface boards and the SVB-10 video board.

With over 50 years experience, Bruel and Kjaer is the world's leading manufacturer and supplier of sound and vibration products for use in a wide range of applications including environmental noise measurements and predictive modelling, building acoustics, R and D in the automotive and aerospace industries and product quality control.
