The alliance of Bruel and Kjaer, Endevco and Ometron has resulted in an organisation that covers every aspect of modal testing, creating a "one-stop" shop for modal test solutions

The alliance of three noise and vibration measurement specialists, Bruel and Kjaer, Endevco and Ometron has resulted in an organisation that covers every aspect of modal testing, creating a "one-stop" shop for modal test solutions Aiming to become the preferred choice for all modal requirements, the alliance draws on its members' vast reserves of experience built up over decades

Modal test solutions on offer encompass everything from impact hammers, transducers and non-contact vibrometers to data acquisition/analysis platforms and modal analysis software.

No matter what a modal test application requires, customers can select from the widest possible range of transducer technologies including piezoelectric (PE), DeltaTron, Isotron, piezoresistive (PR) or variable capacitance (VC).

The range also includes smart transducers compatible with IEEE P1451.5 Transducers Electronic Data Sheet (TEDS) and the alliance can also provide mounting, positioning and orientation accessories.

Non-contact vibration transducer technologies such as single-point and scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometers (LDVs) can also be provided for applications where it is impossible or undesirable to mount an array of accelerometers on a vibrating object.

Modal excitation can be provided through either a range of impact hammers or modal exciters.

A new and complete line of Endevco impact hammers with integrated DeltaTron/Isotron outputs is available for experimental modal analysis of anything from small disk drives to large civil engineering structures.

This is complemented by a range of robust modal exciters designed to handle even the most demanding modal test applications.

Features include force ratings (sine) from 100 to 1000N, low weight armatures, up to 2" stroke capability, special "hole through" armature for tension wire stinger technology and rare earth magnet technology on some types.

Data acquisition and analysis solutions on offer include Pulse, a versatile, task oriented multi-analysis system that allows measurement and analysis of from 2 to 32 channels.

The software in Pulse can basically be used for any type of noise and vibration analysis including mobility measurements.

Adding the dedicated Modal Test Consultant software turns Pulse into a very powerful structural dynamics measurement platform focusing on the very time consuming data acquisition aspects of preparing, performing and validating such measurements.

Pulse is complemented by Intelligent Data Acquisition (IDA) a fully featured front-end specifically developed for large-scale multichannel sound and vibration data acquisition.

A wide range of signal conditioning products is also available including the Optimal Architecture Sensor Interface System (Oasis) low cost, high density signal conditioning system that provides an interface for multiple transducer types.

New DeltaTron conditioning units for multichannel applications can also be supplied.

Complementing the wide range of hardware for modal test applications, Bruel and Kjaer also supplies powerful software solutions to help simplify setting up and reduce the time taken to perform structural dynamic measurements.

Modal Test Consultant is one such solution and this is accompanied by modal parameter extraction software (ME'scopeVES) and Operational Modal Analysis software.

Bruel and Kjaer's one-stop shop Modal Test Solutions are described in a new brochure just published by the company.

The 16-page brochure provides a comprehensive introduction to modal testing with a description of the modal testing measurement chain and how the Bruel and Kjaer, Ometron and Endevco alliance covers every aspect.

Additional sections cover transducer technologies, modal excitation, data acquisition and analysis, multichannel signal conditioning and software.

Examples of modal test solutions are also provided to illustrate the versatility of the various products available.
