Software brings FFT analysis to sound analyser

A Bruel and Kjaer product story

A narrow-band frequency analysis FFT software module effectively turns a Bruel and Kjaer modular precision sound analyser into a powerful sound and vibration analyser

Bruel and Kjaer UK has announced the addition of a new narrow-band frequency analysis Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) software module for its modular precision sound analyser, the 2260 Investigator.

The new module effectively turns the 2260 Investigator into a powerful sound and vibration analyser, bringing the power of FFT analysis to existing 2260 owners for less than £1,900.

Easy to set up and use, the instrument is suitable for measuring continuous and transient sound and vibration signals in environmental and industrial applications.

Offering a wide frequency span of 20kHz from 0.1Hz (156Hz minimum span), the 2260H Investigator delivers over 400 filters regardless of frequency span to enable resolution down to 0.5Hz (50Hz resolution at 20kHz span).

Importantly, all the functions needed in the field (e.g frequency span, zoom and cursors) are easily activated from the 2260H Investigator's familiar front panel.

A flexible internal trigger is provided as well as an external trigger for transients.

To enable the evaluation of tonal content in noise, the software can identify tones and calculate their audibility.

For vibration measurements, the 2260H Investigator uses an adaptor that accepts DeltaTron accelerometers and, via a charge converter, also accepts charge accelerometers.

Vibration measurements can be displayed in acceleration (ms-2), velocity (ms-1) and displacement (m) units or deciBels and the 2260H also supports DIN 45681 (1992) and the Joint Nordic Method ver.

2 (1999) for tone evaluation.

Data collected by the 2260H Investigator can be easily downloaded for analysis into standard spreadsheet programs such as MS Excel via Bruel and Kjaer's communication program.

The FFT module also integrates with other Bruel and Kjaer software for Windows including Evaluator Type 7820 for tone evaluation in environmental noise assessment and Noise Explorer Type 7815 for data display, reports and archiving.

Ideal for use by local authorities and consultants, applications for the 2260H Investigator include FFT analysis of sound or vibration, machinery troubleshooting, pure tone investigation for environmental noise measurements, product development, quality control and building vibration analysis.
