A new handheld, state-of-the-art sound level meter and sound analyser ideal for the real-time measurement of environmental and workplace noise has been introduced by Bruel and Kjaer.

A new handheld, state-of-the-art sound level meter and sound analyser ideal for the real-time measurement of environmental and workplace noise has been introduced by Bruel and Kjaer.

The 2260 Observer offers a flexible, all-in-one solution for the cost-effective measurement in parallel of all broadband parameters and statistical values.

The instrument enables real-time analysis in 1/1- or 1/3-octave bands to be carried out simultaneously.

Broadband and spectral data can all be logged to obtain a time history (profile) for subsequent analysis.

The frequency ranges covered are 8Hz to 16kHz in 1/1-octave bands, and 6.3Hz to 20kHz in 1/3-octave bands.

Designed for ease-of-use, the 2260 Observer features built-in, on-screen help instructions as well as user-defined measurement setups to avoid on-site errors.

The instrument also complies with the new sound level meter standard IEC61672 as well as the previous IEC standards (60651 and 60804) and the latest ANSI standards.

Measurement of reverberation times is a useful option that can be added to carry out acceptance tests of rooms, noise reduction in workplaces and similar tasks.

The 2260 Observer is designed to be able to transfer audio recordings to a laptop computer.

Using the product's software the sound sources featured in the sound recordings can be marked to identify them for subsequent analysis or to 'exclude' unwanted or extraneous noise from later processing.

The new instrument, which is supported by a complete range of software applications for environmental and occupational noise assessments, can also be upgraded to include the full range of advanced applications from the 2260 Investigator portfolio including sound intensity, two-channel building acoustics and FFT analysis.
