Bruel + Kjaer is celebrating its 60th anniversary by urging its customers to help locate the oldest working example of one of its products.

One of the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of sound and vibration products, Bruel + Kjaer, is celebrating its 60th anniversary by urging its customers to help locate the oldest working Bruel + Kjaer product Since its formation Bruel + Kjaer has manufactured millions of sound and vibration products and now has more than 1000 employees, offices in 55 countries and seven accredited calibration centres worldwide

Bruel + Kjaer's wide product range is in excess of 1500 products, including transducers, a full range of handheld sound level meters, analysers, systems, service products and customised solutions.

The lucky winner of the search for the oldest working Bruel + Kjaer product will win a free place on one of the company's wide range of training courses (including hotel accommodation) taking place in 2003.

Nine runners-up prizes of the popular Bruel + Kjaer PocketEar noise monitoring product can also be won.

Bruel + Kjaer's 2003 course calendar features a variety of sound and vibration topics including: basic acoustics, basic vibration, building acoustics, basic frequency analysis, shock and vibration.

The course delegates will be given expert tuition covering theoretical and practical aspects of sound and vibration applications.

For the numerous Bruel + Kjaer customers who are not old enough to remember the early days of World War II the company is also running a series of special trade-in offers as part of the 60 year celebrations.

These include a 25% discount off standard prices of Bruel + Kjaer's Type 2238 Mediator Type 1 integrating sound level meter and Type 4231 Class 1 calibrator if a customer trades in older instruments such as Bruel + Kjaer models Types 2230, 2231 or 2236 plus their calibrators or equivalent models from other manufacturers.

For those people with an old Bruel + Kjaer analyser, another 60 year anniversary offer also enables considerable discounts to be achieved when they upgrade to the company's new Pulsesound and vibration analyser platform.

The company's commitment to innovation continues and many of the instruments used by acousticians and engineers have been augmented or even replaced by PC hardware and software, such as Pulset, Bruel + Kjaer's PC-based multi-analyser.

Commenting on the anniversary, Bruel + Kjaer's Managing Director, Karl (Kalle) Kristian Hvidt Nielsen, said: "Our customers know they can count on us to support them after the sale not just for a year or two but for decades down the road.

The company is still servicing sound measurement equipment it sold in the 1970s".

Bruel + Kjaer's desire for engineering excellence in the future is marked by the company's involvement in a variety of international R and D projects such as the EU's Friendly Aircraft Cabin Environment (FACE) project that is a four-year programme involving 30 European companies dedicated to improving aircraft cabin comfort.

The company is also involved in the European Commission's Silencer project focused on dampening aircraft engine noise.
