Bruel + Kjaer's highly popular "Basic principles of acoustics" course has been revised and updated this year to be even more comprehensive.

Bruel + Kjaer's highly popular "Basic principles of acoustics" course has been revised and updated this year to be even more comprehensive.

The two-day course, which had a huge uptake in 2002, covers a wide range of subjects to provide a thorough basis for those new to the fields of sound, noise and acoustic measurements.

The event will also explain to engineers and technicians the best way of correctly setting up measuring instruments or assessing noise reports.

The course takes place on 21st and 22nd October 2003 at Bruel + Kjaer's UK training centre in Stevenage.

The course is recommended to all users of sound level meters and spectrum analysis equipment, including third octave analysers who wish to acquire a good basic understanding of acoustic and measurement principles for a variety of applications, such as noise abatement, product labelling and building acoustics.

Topics addressed during the course include: definitions of sound and an introduction to the decibel scale; the human perception of sound and noise and weighting curves; frequency of sound in relation to human hearing and noise control; basic sound measurement techniques and the use of sound level meters.

The course will also preview advanced measurement techniques and their special applications as well as provide introductions to the following subjects: environmental noise measurements; measurement of noise in the workplace; sound level measurements for product labelling; room and hall acoustics; methods for analysing the frequency of sound.

The course lecturer will once again be the experienced Bas Mollenkramer.

Mollenkramer, who is back by popular demand and was highly praised by all who have attended his previous course, will take delegates through the basics using lecture notes and hands-on practical demonstrations.

Course delegates will receive a free copy of the Bruel + Kjaer environmental noise booklet.
