A new Case Study from the Environmental Technology Best Practice Programme describes how Harman Pro Audio Manufacturing saved over £37,000 on its packaging materials

Taking a systematic look at opportunities to reduce packaging costs is an easy way for small manufacturing companies to increase their profits.

It can also bring environmental benefits and stronger relationships with customers and suppliers.

A new Case Study from the Environmental Technology Best Practice Programme describes how Harman Pro Audio Manufacturing saved over £37,000 in the first year of a campaign to reduce the costs of purchasing, handling and disposing of packaging materials for loudspeaker transducers.

The no-cost and low-cost initiatives included the redesign of packaging to eliminate polystyrene, the use of bulk packaging instead of single packs, and re-use of packaging for deliveries to a regular customer.

Rationalising its packaging use also allowed the Company to negotiate a substantial discount with its packaging supplier.

Less is now spent on buying packaging materials, less space is needed to store packaging and less waste is sent to landfill.

Packaging waste at the site in Redruth is also easier to segregate and recycle.
