Businesses in the engineering sector are being urged to take advantage of a free seminar which will demonstrate how to effectively adapt to new hazardous waste regulations.
Businesses in the UK engineering sector are being urged to take advantage of a free seminar which will demonstrate how to effectively adapt to new hazardous waste regulations.
The free evening event, which is being jointly organised by the Government-funded Envirowise programme and the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), will take place at 1830 GMT on 30th November at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford.
It will highlight how engineers can identify, manage and reduce hazardous waste - and how in some cases they could save money in the process.
The briefing is in response to the new regulations which came into force in July this year.
These regulations expand the list of waste materials classified as hazardous and introduce new controls for their movement.
As a result many businesses are now dealing with hazardous waste for the first time, making it important for them to introduce changes to business practice in order to comply with the new legislation.
The event will be opened by the Vice Chair of the Thames Valley FSB, Barry Wheatley, and will feature a variety of speakers - including The FSB National Environment Chair, representatives from the Environment Agency as well as Envirowise specialists.
The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session.
Envirowise Programme Director, Dr Martin Gibson, said: "Becoming informed about relevant waste legislation is a logical first step for those interested in moving towards environmental best practice, and in many cases making serious savings".
"Businesses should not miss this opportunity to get clear and concise guidance from experts in the field".
Barry Wheatley said: "This new legislation will affect businesses of all sizes, many of whom probably do not consider themselves as hazardous waste producers".
"But without proper preparation and guidance, these regulatory changes could affect the operation of small businesses much more than larger organisations".
"This event will offer specialist advice for smaller enterprises and I would therefore urge as many businesses as possible to attend".
