New from Epcos, the WindCap series of heavy-duty AC capacitors is specifically designed for power factor correction and harmonic current filtering in wind turbines and other industrial applications employing heavily distorted electrical networks Wind turbines have a power factor of less than one, which means that manufacturers have to add power factor correction to improve their performance

WindCap capacitors provide relief from reactive power and reduce ohmic losses in transformers, supply cables and other electrical distribution equipment.

The compact WindCap is a self-healing, metalised polypropylene film capacitor employing dry technology and an overpressure disconnector.

Housed in a rugged cylindrical aluminium case the new capacitor provides exceptionally high performance in the most demanding conditions such as fast changing load, brownout, voltage interruptions and increasing harmonic current distortion on the grid.

The three-phase capacitors, designed for delta connection in 50/60Hz circuits, are available in two rated voltages: 690V AC, designated MKK690-D, and 800V AC, MKK800-D.

For the MKK690-D types capacitance ranges from 3x11 F to 3x56 F, while for the larger 800V models capacitance ranges from 3x8 F to 3x46 F.

Extremely low loss, a high pulse current withstand capability of up to 300 times rated current, and a service life of more than 130,000 hours makes Windcap both highly reliable and very easy on maintenance and running costs.
