Epcos has extended its NTC family of glass-encapsulated sensors.

Offering a wide choice of solutions with industry-leading response times and resistance against high temperatures, moisture and aggressive media, as well as high-stability low-drift lifetime operation and ultracompact packaging, the NTC is the ideal temperature or flow measurement sensor for a host of applications.

The NTC additions comprise the G540, G550 and G560 ranges, with maximum operating temperatures of 250, 300 and 300C, and maximum diameters of 0.9, 1.5 and 2.5mm, respectively.

A wide choice of nominal resistances is offered spanning from 2 to 1400kohm.

Their high temperature resistance makes them particularly suited to the tough thermal environments found in household appliances such as deep-fat fryers and, for example, automotive exhaust gas recirculation systems as well as flow measurement in diesel particle filters.

The G540 series' extremely short thermal cooling or response time in air of just 2 to 3s enables even minor temperature changes to be quickly detected, allowing temperature to be kept highly constant.

Compared with a typical 10s response for a minisensor, this greatly shortens energy "guzzling" heating cycles, substantially reducing overall energy consumption of the toaster, coffee maker or automotive/industrial system involved.

Power consumption for the G540, G550 and G560 ranges is 18, 32 and 50mW, and approximate power dissipation in air 0.4, 0.75 and 1.3mW/K, respectively.

The sensors' leads are copper-clad FeNi dumet wires.
