Epcos produces a wide and varied range of PTC products for a growing list of automotive applications.

PTC thermistors perform many functions relevant to automotive safety and convenience.

They heat fuel filters and lines, which is particularly important in diesel engines to prevent fuel from thickening at low temperatures.

PTC thermistors also heat windscreen washer nozzles to prevent them from being clogged up by washing liquid that freezes at extreme outdoor temperatures.

In engines of low cubic capacity with aluminium engine blocks, the crankcase vents and oil ducts must be heated at low temperatures and during extremely short journeys to prevent condensed water from freezing.

For this application, Epcos offers the B59041Rxxx and B59060Axxx series.

PTC thermistors can also be found in the heat exchangers of car air conditioning systems.

After cold starting, they heat up the interior of the vehicle until the engine generates enough heat.

As well as being economical and capable of being made in virtually any shape, PTC thermistors offer two decisive advantages: they are self-regulating and do not have any parts that glow during operation.
