The prizes, which were sponsored by Hoganas, Sweden, were presented by the President of EPMA, Dr Cesar Molins, at the opening plenary session of the conference.

In the closely fought competition, marked as usual, by exceedingly high standards, the winner of the doctorate section was Dr Ibon Azkona, who obtained his PhD from the University of Navarra.

Dr Azkona received a cheque for GBP 1000 then gave a short presentation on "Effect of processing conditions on sinter-HIP Densification of titanium diboride based cermets".
