This year's Euro PM2003 Conference and Exhibition took place last month in the historic city of Valencia, Spain, with the theme "Meeting the challenges of a changing marketplace".

A truly international event, it included delegates from some 40 countries in all, ranging from the Far East and Africa to the Americas.

Its appeal meant that it attracted some 240 oral and poster presentations and more than 500 participants.

The event also included a sell out exhibition with over 60 booths, covering companies from all parts of the PM supply chain.

Jonathan Wroe, EPMA Executive Director said: "The success of the conference and exhibition at a difficult time for many organisations is very pleasing and puts us in good heart for the world congress in Vienna next year".

During the congress plenary session, EPMA President Dr Cesar Molins presented the EPMA Distinguished Service Award for 2003 to Dr Enrico Mosca, formerly of Olivetti and more recently Secretary of Assinter, the Italian PM Association, for his exceptional services to the powder metallurgy industry.

Dr Molins also presented an EPMA honorary membership to Per Lindskog of Ductil for his invaluable support for the association.

In addition, four EPMA Innovation Awards were presented to Parmaco of Switzerland, the Fraunhofer Institute - IFAM in Bremen, Germany, Osterwalder of Switzerland and Advanced Materials Technologies of Singapore.

Details of these awards can be found on the EPMA website.

The Congress gala dinner at the classical Spanish venue of El Huerto De Santa Maria was noteworthy for a dramatic and noisy firework display sponsored by the EPMA Spanish Chapter and a performance by a local marching band that provided a suitable finale to a dynamic and productive conference and exhibition.

Work is already underway for the PM 2004 World Congress and Exhibition, to be held in Vienna, Austria from 17th to 21st October 2004.
