Powder metallurgy training begins in Germany
The European Powder Metallurgy Association is holding a new series of training courses on powder metallurgy for young materials and design engineers.
"We are envisaging another close fought competition for the winner status in each category".
She went onto make clear that as in every year the competition between the entries becomes ever closer as companies and organisations look to the EPMA Award winners as the benchmark for the PM industry.
The aim of the 2006 EPMA Awards for Excellence in Powder Metallurgy competition, supported by Metal Powder Report, is designed to stimulate interest in powder metallurgy and showcase innovation from all aspects of the PM industry.
In the past these prestigious awards have focused on innovation, now, for the first time, entries can be either for "excellence of commercial exploitation" or "innovation in powder metallurgy".
"The benefits that an entrant company receives remain the same as in previous years", explained Hallward.
She added: "The decision was taken to modify the awards from 'innovation' to 'excellence' as we wanted to reflect the industrious nature of the products and organisations, as in the past some entrees have been of an excellent nature, but lacked the innovational element and this change will hopefully readdress this balance".
The format of the awards will stay the same with the three categories of the European awards comprising: components - including structural parts, hard metals and MIM; materials - including ferrous and nonferrous powders, alloys, hard metals and refractory metals; and production equipment - process technology.
There will also be one international award for all categories.
Judging for the awards will be on a strictly confidential basis by a multinational panel of experts who will evaluate each submission according to preset criteria.
