The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has published an online guide for researchers.

The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work has published an online guide for researchers.

It provides information about important funding opportunities for occupational safety and health research in the recently launched sixth EU Research Framework Programme (FP6).

With Eur 17.5 billion of funding on offer over the next four years, FP6 accounts for 5.4% of all public, non-defence-related, research spending in Europe.

The agency hopes to stimulate funding applications for research that could improve Europe's working environment and competitiveness.

Written for occupational safety and health (OSH) researchers, the guide provides an easy-to-navigate road map to FP6 highlighting areas where they could get involved.

According to the guide OSH research is relevant to 11 key priority areas of the Programme.

In many cases it will be a question of safety and health at work being a component of a broader research application, for example related to thematic areas like Information society technologies and New production processes and hazard control.

But OSH is also indicated as a key theme within specific activities for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Launching the new web feature, the Agency's Director, Hans-Horst Konkolewsky commented: "Europe needs high quality research if is to meet the safety and health challenges of a rapidly changing world of work and to strengthen its competitive position in a globalised economy.

The new research framework programme offers real opportunities for OSH researchers to benefit from European support.

So the Agency's message to Europe's OSH research community is to get online and check out our guidance note.

And then to network and prepare your applications".

As well as providing extracts of OSH-relevant areas of FP6, the agency's guide lists all key deadlines, contacts at the European Commission and includes a comprehensive set of links to further information and full work programmes.
