A new online information portal is being launched by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EAHSW) and is based on the most advanced Internet technology.

A new online information portal is being launched by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EAHSW) and is based on the most advanced Internet technology.

"Our new website is the first global portal to occupational safety and health information for people involved in risk prevention at work," explains Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, the Agency's director.

"It has been designed to offer the best possible support to a growing number of workplaces that are concerned about safety and health and need practical information to address their risks.

"A world of safety and health knowledge is now available right at your fingertips.

"I hope that our new information system will lead to improved workplace health and safety and help reduce the large human and economic toll paid due to accidents and ill-health at work".

The new website can be found via the EASHW website and provides the following services: users can search for information by risk types, sectors or groups; when looking for more specialised terminology, the on-line thesaurus in 20 languages will come in handy as it groups terms by subject and lists all the records containing the selected keyword; users can customise the site to their own requirements in terms of OSH topics, languages and countries; the good-practice section provides case studies that can be readily implemented in organisations; users can easily navigate the national sites maintained by the Agency's representations across Europe or any of its international partners sites; users can download any of the Agency's publications from popular factsheets to specialised magazines from the on-line library; and users can learn more about noise prevention by having a look at the new noise at work web feature that has been developed to support the 2005 European Week campaign.
