Conference discusses goal of 'decent work for all'

A conference on 'Fair Globalisation - Safe Workplace - Policies, Strategies and Practices for Sustainable Development' took place in Dusseldorf, Germany, from 24 to 26 October 2005.

A conference on 'Fair Globalisation - Safe Workplace - Policies, Strategies and Practices for Sustainable Development' took place in Dusseldorf, Germany, from 24 to 26 October 2005.

Over 200 participants from more than 50 countries discussed strategies for reaching the goal of decent work for all.

The session on OSH Economics and the Social Balance in a Globalised World was chaired and introduced by Mr Konkolewsky, director of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EASHW).

Outstanding best-practice examples concerning OSH organisation, OSH management and the implementation of ILO Core Labour Standards of European enterprises were presented.

Mr Gerard Zwetsloot, Professor at Erasmus Centre for Sustainability and Management of Erasmus University Rotterdam, gave the keynote-lecture.

He focused on the results of a study carried out of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work on Corporate Social Responsibility and Safety and Health at Work.

He emphasised that safe and sound working conditions and good worker health belong to the social responsibilities of companies, and can be regarded as an integral part of CSR.
