Protecting COTS equipment from severe vibration

An Equipment Reliability Institute product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 20, 2008

'Isolating COTS Equipment Aboard Military Vehicles', a short course meeting at NTS Laboratories, Fullerton, California, takes place on 3-5 March 2009.

Its principal focus is protecting racks of relatively delicate commercial, off-the-shelf electronic and other equipment from the severe vibrations aboard military and commercial aircraft (especially helicopters) and also military and naval land and sea vehicles.

The course is intended to acquaint inexperienced electrical and mechanical engineers with those environments, which can be harmful to installed electronic and other vital and necessary instruments and equipments.

Only rarely can such equipment be rigidly attached to the vehicle.

Soft attachments, often called 'mounts' or 'isolators' are needed.
