ERA Technology has just tested the 100th Sea Harrier production radome for Chelton Radomes.

ERA Technology has just tested the 100th Sea Harrier production radome for Chelton Radomes Ltd.

The radomes, manufactured by Chelton, act as housing for the radar equipment on the nose of the Sea Harrier.

ERA conducts production acceptance testing of the RF performance of the radomes, on a fully automatic test range at Leatherhead.

Battlefield advantage is achieved because ERA considers the operational as well as the technical requirements of the customer.

Chelton is then left free to concentrate on making greatest use of its own core skills of designing and manufacturing the radomes.

ERA has been carrying out the testing for the current production of radomes for over eight years.

The test range has been maintained as near as possible to its original condition to ensure consistent testing.

Radome performance is determined by comparing measurements, with and without the radome, of the enclosed antenna.

Measurements are made with the antenna scanned to a number of directions in succession and the processed results are compared with the radome specification.
