The installation of an end-of-line metal detection system has been essential for Finesse Cuisines to achieve accreditation to the British Retail Food Standard.

Reading-based Finesse Cuisines is a new, up and coming company which is currently benefiting from the UK retailing boom in Indian cuisine.

Finesse Cuisines purchased an end-of-line Mesutronic Series 20C metal detector from Eriez Magnetics Europe to check packaged Indian meals for possible metal contamination.

Finesse Cuisines required a metal detector quickly and Eriez was able to build and supply within three days.

"This equipment was essential to achieve the British Retail Food Standard and we achieved the accreditation in June 2002", says Omesh Vasudev, Managing Director of Finesse Cuisines.

The metal detector plays a vital part when complying with British Government and EU food safety regulations.

The metal detector was delivered on an integral conveyor fitted with an Intralox belt, measuring 1600mm in length and 300mm in width, complete with belt stop and visual alarm reject system.

When in use, the metal detector will detect down to 1mm sphere ferrous and 1.5mm nonferrous/stainless steel.

It also features a user-friendly menu, which can capture and track up to 50 product identities.

The Mesutronic Series 20C metal detector is only part of a complete range of metal separation and detection equipment supplied by Eriez Magnetics to the food and other process industries.

All units are manufactured to the ISO9001 quality standard and are recommended as part of food companies' QA HACCP systems.
