Ethernet Powerlink adopted as draft
standard

The adoption of Ethernet Powerlink as a draft standard follows advances in stack development and implementation.

The Ethernet Powerlink Standardization Group (EPSG) has adopted Ethernet Powerlink as a draft standard to guarantee its future Starting from the basis of the existing standard proposal, stack development and implementation has advanced intensively during the past few months

As a result, the proposal can be incorporated into the standard.

Until now, users have benefited from the openness, transparency, safety and speed of Ethernet Powerlink.

Through the standard there are ready developed stacks with uniform communication and device profiles.

Only with these uniform and predefined profiles is true interoperability at all levels, from the controller to I/O, possible.

A further precondition for the widespread use in automation has therefore been fulfilled.

The advantages of Ethernet Powerlink's complete openness are also visible with the changeover to the standard.

It is software only, so it can be implemented on any standard Ethernet hardware and processor chip.

It can be updated at any time without interfering with the application.

Interoperability remains unaffected.

Ethernet Powerlink is claimed to be the only market established real-time Ethernet protocol with micro-second accuracy.

It is based on international standards and there are over 100,000 Ethernet Powerlink nodes in use in traditional production machinery around the world.

More than 300 facilitators, suppliers and users have implemented Ethernet Powerlink and over 150 mechanical engineers have completed Ethernet Powerlink projects.

It is an open standard for distributed automation based on the Ethernet and Canopen profiles with accurate real-time response in the micro-second range, high availability and safety mechanisms.

EPSG members include ABB Robotics, Alstom, Altera, Baldor, B and R, Hirschmann, Innotec, Ixxat, Kuka Controls, KW Software, Lenze, Pepperl + Fuchs and Tetra Pak.
