Elektronik is a German magazine for electronic developers.
Ethernet PowerLink (EPL) is currently the only available real-time Ethernet network with microsecond cycle times based solely on open standards.
More than 15,000 EPL nodes have already been working reliably for more than two years in serial machinery all over the world.
Ethernet PowerLink is based on standards including IEEE 802.3, CANopen device profiles, IP-based protocols and off-the-shelf Ethernet silicon.
The Product of the Year Awards were established to honour the most innovative and useful products introduced to the electronics market.
Initial entries were selected by the editors of Elektronik Magazine, and readers were invited to vote on their choices for the best products.
"The EPSG is honoured to be recognised by electronics developers who appreciate how important it is to further deploy standards-based Ethernet networks, yet be able to handle microsecond real-time data and more", said Andreas Pfeiffer, EPSG board member.
"The award acknowledges EPSGs policy of uncompromised openness and that a large group of end-users, vendors and institutes is able to put together industrial strength solutions in a very short timeframe".
