Emerson Process Management has been awarded a contract by BP to improve performance of its integrated power station and CHP plant on its Grangemouth UK site.
Emerson Process Management has been awarded a contract by BP to improve performance of its integrated power station and CHP plant on its Grangemouth UK site.
This cogeneration facility provides power to support the major BP businesses on the site - Exploration, Oil and Chemicals.
This contract forms part of BP's automation strategy to increase plant availability and improve the economic performance at the Grangemouth site.
The solution will be implemented using Emerson's real-time on-line optimisation system, RTO+.
In addition e-fficiency, web-based equipment performance monitoring service, will be used to analyse the underlying performance of boilers and steam turbines to support BP's operational decision making.
"BP is pleased to place this contract with Emerson, whose track record and abilities are evident from previous projects on the Grangemouth site.
Again we have selected Emerson because of their value proposition that provides a solution that is the most complete and cost-effective to meet our needs", said Gordon Grant, BP Availability Manager.
"We know this project will enable us to become more efficient and responsive, and will play a key role in helping us reduce our annual energy bill by approximately 3%".
This project builds on the success experienced on this site where RTO+ has been deployed to provide an online, real-time closed-loop optimiser on the G4 and KG olefins parts of the site.

Emerson's Asset Optimization offering combines services and technologies to improve availability and performance of production assets.
It takes advantage of the PlantWeb digital plant architecture to automate the flow of information on asset reliability and performance to the people who run the business.
