Four of E-T-A Circuit Breakers' plucky workforce from Aylesbury have been the first to establish a new record for the Guinness Book of Records and have raised money in the process for Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

They succeeded in driving through every one of the 96 counties of mainland Great Britain in under 40 hours without breaking any speed limits.

As Simon Tyas explained, "We wanted to help our local hospital raise money for an urgently needed replacement scanner and at the same time set ourselves a challenge.

After the Guinness Book of Records had set us a target of under 40 hours, we spent almost 4 months planning the logistics and mapping out our route.

We thought we could do it in several hours less.

As it panned out we were getting pessimistic as we headed towards the West Country and the finish, but we finally drove into Cornwall after 39hours 35minutes, thus being the first to set this record." Roger Aslett continued the story, "Together with Darren Fox and Steve Lett, and a loaned tachometer to check for broken speed limits, we set out at 10pm on a Saturday from Grantown-on-Spey.

We rotated jobs to keep ourselves fresh - driver, navigator, route plotter and sleep - and stuck to our planned route through Scotland, then England via the NE, Midlands, E, SE, West Country, NW, Wales, and finally to the SW on the Monday afternoon.

Our 'proof' was our complete photo collection of county signs and written statements at the start and finish.

E-T-A Circuit Breakers are now record breakers, too, and we have managed to raise several thousand pounds for charity into the bargain.".
