The Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Margaret Hodge MP, is due to speak at an ETB partnership conference in London on the 3rd December.

The Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Margaret Hodge MP, is due to speak at an ETB partnership conference in London on the 3rd December.

Entitled "Skills for tomorrow's technology business", the conference will address the pressing skills issues facing the science, engineering and technology sector in the UK.

The success of UK business in the global economy requires employers to exploit a range of skills and expertise.

Dedicated workshops will explore issues surrounding meeting the demand for these skills in the next decade.

Margaret Hodge MP will be joined by ETB Chairman, Sir Peter Williams, who will open proceedings.

Conference Chairman, Glyn Berrington, Head of Learning Development, Astrium, will introduce presentations from leading industry figures including, Gordon Hutchinson, Head of Engineering, BP, Dr Lambert Dopping-Hepenstal, Advanced Technology Director, BAE Systems and Alan Watts, VP, MindReady Solutions.

Sir Peter Williams, Chairman of ETB, commented: "The science, engineering and technology sector is central to the health of the whole UK economy and underpins our collective prosperity for the future.

This conference marks an important step towards tackling the key issues facing business and industry".

In conjunction with EC (UK) and CRAC, ETB, a partnership to promote science, engineering and technology, is leading the conference that will be attended by over 150 key figures from the world of science, engineering and technology.

The conference forms part of ETB's on going programme of forging links and engaging all sectors of business, industry, academia and the science and engineering professions to tackle the skills challenge.
