The Engineering Integrity Society is holding a seminar on "Structural integrity in composites" in Bristol on Wednesday 27th October 2004.

Composite materials have been in use for many years and have been applied to many different applications.

However, the initial promise of high strength to weight has not always been delivered in practice.

As with all materials, the manufacturing process is important to the in-service properties; with composites, it is even more crucial.

Traditional assumptions about material properties and behaviour no longer hold true and new challenges have to be faced.

The effect of the operating environment can be very significant and repair methods will be very different.

This seminar will show some of the latest work by companies and leading researchers at the forefront of applying these advanced materials in challenging applications.
