Dr Peter Blackmore has been appointed Chairman of the Engineering Integrity Society following the retirement of Professor John Draper from the post.

John Draper (Managing Director, Safe Technology) was a founder member of the EIS in 1985 and has served the Society as Chairman since 1990.

Professor Draper has steered the society from modest early beginnings to its current position as an established international body organising conferences, exhibitions and workshops.

New Chairman, Dr Blackmore (Principal Technical Specialist, Fatigue Technology, Jaguar Cars) is also a founder member of the society and has served as Chair of the EIS Durability and Fatigue Group and as a Council Member.

"Since its formation 20 years ago, the EIS has made a recognisable and significant contribution to advancing engineering science".

"The society provides a valuable forum for the exchange of ideas, expertise and information between engineers concerned with designing products demanding high structural integrity", commented Dr Blackmore.

"I would like to see the influence of the EIS continue to grow with new members and sponsors enhancing our community of engineers and technologists, ensuring that the society remains vital and relevant in today's industrial climate".
