Serial convertors are a high quality but cost effective option for converting serial signals without any modification to the connected PC's hardware or software.

Ethernet Direct Corporation reckons its Retriever Series serial convertors are a high quality but cost effective option for converting serial signals without any modification to the connected PC's hardware or software The Retriever Series comprises three models: the RUS-9510A RS422/RS485 isolated high speed repeater; the RUS-9520A RS232 to RS422/RS485 convertor with Autopro; and the RUS-9530 USB to RS232/422/485 module

The RUS-9510A and RUS-9520A allow users to overcome the limitations of the RS232 protocol, including speed, range and networking capabilities, by using different voltage lines for data and control signals.

The RUS-9520A has a built-in Autopro function that enables the convertor to automatically configure RS422/485 baud rate without setting external DIP switches.

The RUS-9530 convertor is an intelligent, industrial type expansion module that connects to a PC USB port or USB hub via the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port, providing one High-Speed RS232/RS-422 or RS485 jumperless serial port.

The RS232 standard supports full-duplex communication and handshaking signals (such as RTS, CTS) and the RS485 control is completely transparent to the user and software written for half-duplex COM works without any modification.

In addition to single port industrial USB to serial convertor, some application would require multiple USB ports like four or eight serial ports.

To meet this requirement, Ethernet Direct also offers: the RUS-414 four-port RS232 to USB convertor and the RUS-814 eight-port RS232 to USB convertor.
