USB connection to multiple serial devices
Busy engineers using latest workstations, can now connect to their existing serial ports via the USB port, using Digi's Edgeport connection technology.
Ethernet scores at the games
Entrix Computing was recently asked to supply the technology behind connecting the various scoring devices used at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Once registered, users will be able to order any of the products on line for delivery in just a few days.
The site was developed to showcase Digi International, which is well known for its professional range of serial to network products.
These devices are becoming increasingly popular on the factory floor, as a simple and effective way to link multiple serial devices on an industrial network using conventional Ethernet topology.
Digi's EtherLite terminal servers have been designed to connect asynchronous serial ports to either 10Base-T or 100Base-T networks.
Because the EtherLite ports are real, local, serial devices, they are not slowed down by network overhead, which can be a problem with some terminal servers.
In effect, the serial information is "wrapped" and sent via Ethernet to the appropriate Windows or Unix based machine.
The Ethernet ports appear as native comports under Windows NT or local TTYs under Unix.
EtherLite serial port servers come with operating system drivers for SCO, UNIX, Windows NT, Linux and Java.
The automated configuration software is simple to install and configure by loading the device driver on the host and setting the IP address.
This is just one of over 60 products within Entrix's new site which also covers remote access, multiport boards and serial to USB.
