The Digi TSW family of one-, two- and four-port serial to wireless Ethernet device servers are the first in a series of Digi products to ship with 802.11b wireless connectivity.

This new innovation means a gauge, instrument, or other serial device situated where direct wiring is a problem can be connected to the Ethernet network via any in-range 802.11b wireless access point (WAP) yet appear serially attached.

Software applications designed for locally attached serial devices need no modification to work with Digi TSW attached serial devices.

The Digi TSW family includes Digi's patented RealPort technology.

RealPort works by creating a local COM or TTY port on the host computer allowing software applications to work with wired or wireless networked device servers replacing the requirement for integrated serial host adapter cards.

Out of the box the Digi TSW family delivers additional powerful features such as data security via SSH v2, and 64 and 128bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).

Management is easy with read/write SNMP support for all configuration parameters plus full serial, Ethernet and wireless MIBs.

"The continuing development of our device server product line with the addition of 802.11b is yet another example of our commitment to innovation as well as making it easy for our customers to network-enable their devices", said Joe Dunsmore, CEO and President of Digi International.

The Digi TSW family of products is designed to easily integrate any EIA-232/422/485 serial device to an 802.11b wireless Ethernet infrastructure and offers universal, high performance serial- wireless connectivity and is ideal for applications requiring COM ports, serial tunnelling, or where TCP socket, UDP socket or UDP multicasting functionality is needed.

Digi's wireless device servers include the Digi One TSW, Digi PortServer TS2W, and the Digi PortServer TS4W.

The Device Server family combines an auto-run wizard for making the devices "plug and play" with Digi's simple GUI interface to create a simple, hassle-free, installation and product configuration experience.
