Choice of ten tones on sounder for Ex areas

An European Safety Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 4, 2002

A new 110 and 113dB(A) BEx explosion-proof sounder has a choice of ten tones that can be combined with a user-recordable message up to sixteen seconds

The latest version of the 110 and 113dB(A) BEx explosion-proof sounders to be introduced by European Safety Systems is the Appello, a unit designed for use in Hazardous Areas both on- and offshore.

The unit has a single alarm stage, with a choice of ten tones that can be combined with a user-recordable message up to 16 seconds in length.

The tones include the PFEER/UKOOA "Toxic Gas Alarm", "General Alarm" and "Prepare to Abandon Platform" warnings, which, with the reinforcement of a specific voice message, provide a clear and unambiguous warning to personnel; the unit can be used as a voice-only annunciator if required.

Messages can be factory preset or user-recorded using the built in microphone; the unique direct digital storage in non-volatile memory ensures outstanding clarity of the broadcast message.

The BEx Appello is available in both EEx d and EEx de ratings and is suitable for use in Zone 1 and 2, Gas Group IIC environments; it operates from 24VDC, 115VAC and 230VAC, with low current draw at all voltages.

For ease of installation, particularly when using large diameter solid cable, a major feature is the large termination area.

The EEx d version accepts either one 4mm2 or two 2.5mm2 cables, the EEx de units can accommodate two 4mm2 cables and have dual in and out terminals.

The unit is sealed to IP66, the body is manufactured from marine grade LM6 aluminium, the horn is fire-retardant high impact ABS and all units have a ratchet adjustable stainless steel 'U' mounting bracket with positive stops every 15deg.
