Manufacturing Technology Scotland 2001 exhibition

An European Trade and Exhibition Services product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 22, 2001

Manufacturing Technology Scotland 2001 targets Scotland's continuing growth.

In launching a dedicated exhibition for Scotland, regional exhibition organisers Exhibition Trade Exhibition Services (ETES), are seeking to provide a professional engineering solutions event dedicated to Scottish Manufacturing Industry.

'Figures from the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) in conjunction with Scottish Trade International show Scottish manufacturing as an underestimated force,' stated ETES Managing Director, Phil Valentine.

'Although GDP continues to show growth in line with the rest of the UK, its service sector is not responsible for a high percentage of its 2.1% growth (SCDI QI 2000).

Instead, the excellent performance of Scotland's manufacturing sector, led by the booming electronics sector, show growth of 11.3% since 1995, and justifies our decision to launch an event in Scotland based on a successful regional exhibition strategy' Manufacturing Technology Scotland will be held at the Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh 23-24 May, and early indications show it is already on target to fill the targeted 1500sq.m.

'More than 150 companies will exhibit leading edge products and services aimed at providing Scottish engineers with an insight into the latest technology.' added Valentine.

'In fact, with an economic forecast from Cambridge Econometrics estimating a continuing GDP growth figure for Scotland of 2.7%, if you are involved in design, production, plant or procurement, Manufacturing Technology Scotland is your event.' Intra trade figures for 1998/9 from the SCDI show an increase in manufactured product sold to the UK Continental Shelf (Offshore Oil and Gas Industry), although 58% of product is distributed throughout the 'rest of the UK', 33% stays within Scotland serving the key sectors of printing/publishing, electronics, coke/petroleum, non-metallic minerals and fabricated metal products.
