Drive removes the need for a brake

An EURMotion product story

The HLD is supplied with an Animatics SmartMotorT, an integrated servomotor with inbuilt drive and servo controller.

EURMotion has released Harmonic Linear DriveT (HLD).

The HLD is designed to eliminate the need for a gearbox and is offered in configurations giving 2.5mm/rev, 5mm/rev and 10mm/rev, by having a 20 tooth drive pulley on a common drive shaft with a 21, 22 or 24-tooth drive pulley and a very clever belt topology to keep the belt always in tension.

This is equivalent to having a 40:1, 20:1 or 10:1 reduction.

The need for a brake is also eliminated, as the 2.5mm/rev unit cannot be back-driven and the 5mm/rev and 10mm/rev will support 13 and 7kg loads respectively without power.

The timing belt is pre-tensioned and the belt teeth accurately mesh with the drive pulleys, so no backlash is evident.

Bi-directional repeatability is very good and +/-0.03mm can be achieved.

Uni-directional repeatability is better than +/-0.01mm.

Accuracy is comparable to rolled ball screws with +/- 0.1mm per 300mm being attainable.

Unlike ball screws, stroke lengths up to 3.2m are available.

The HLD is supplied with an Animatics SmartMotorT, an integrated servomotor with inbuilt drive and servo controller.

Thrusts in excess of 400N are attainable depending on motor choice and HLD type.

Two basic styles of HLD are offered, with internal plastic rollers for lightly loaded applications or with an external precision linear rail for higher loads.

With the SmartMotorT powered Harmonic Linear DriveT, building a multi axis system has been greatly simplified.
