Eurotherm adds Ethernet/IP to Epower SCR series

An Eurotherm product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 27, 2009

Eurotherm, a manufacturer of industrial instrumentation for process control and data acquisition, has introduced Ethernet/IP communication protocol to its Epower SCR power controller series.

Now with six different protocols, the Epower controller covers all major industrial protocols used in the industry (CC-Link, Modbus TCP, Profibus, Modbus RTU, Devicenet and now Ethernet/IP).

The new supported protocol offers a direct connection to major PLCs with Ethernet/IP and thus eliminates the need for third-party gateways and support for multiple protocols.

According to the company, it reduces network complexity and the cost of operation.

After introducing a number of functions in power management and energy cost reduction, such as 'predictive load management' for advanced power distribution and load synchronisation and the 'load tap changer' for power factor improvement and harmonic distortion reduction in phase angle applications, Eurotherm now provides original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), system integrators and end users with the protocol they need for integration into industrial networks.

With seven different configurations and up to four channels, from single phase to true three phase or even four single phases, this power controller can be customised to fulfil customer requirements.

Products are available pre-configured from 50A to 630A as well as up to 4,000A, covering the entire spectrum of electrically fired industrial applications.
